The Okanagan’s food scene has matured significantly over the past decade. What was once a region of decent winery bistros and tourist-facing pub food now has a genuine restaurant culture — farm-to-table sourcing, serious wine lists, and chefs who came here deliberately, not as a fallback. The best meals in the valley rival anything in Vancouver. This guide covers the top picks by town, honest about what’s worth the drive and what to skip.
Osoyoos Restaurants
The Sonora Room — Burrowing Owl Estate Winery
The finest restaurant in the South Okanagan. The menu changes seasonally and leans hard into local sourcing — most produce is grown on the property or sourced from farms within an hour’s drive. The wine list is obviously excellent. Views over the vineyard and Osoyoos Lake from the terrace are extraordinary. Dinner reservations book out weeks ahead in summer; lunch is slightly easier to get into. One of the best restaurant experiences in all of BC.
Reservations: Essential — book 2–4 weeks ahead for summer weekends
Best for: special occasions, wine lovers, serious diners
Diamond Steak & Seafood
A longtime Osoyoos institution that has survived decades of tourism churn for good reason. Straightforward steakhouse with consistent quality, good service, and a wine list that actually represents the local region. Not trendy but reliable when you want a proper dinner without the farm-to-table ceremony.
Nk’Mip Cellars — Patio Tasting
Not a full restaurant, but the patio at Nk’Mip Cellars serves charcuterie boards and light bites that pair well with their wines. The setting overlooking the lake and desert is hard to beat for a late afternoon glass.
Oliver Restaurants
Miradoro — Tinhorn Creek Vineyards
Perched above the Golden Mile Bench with sweeping vineyard views, Miradoro is one of the Okanagan’s best winery restaurants. The Mediterranean-influenced menu uses local ingredients with a light touch. Good vegetarian options. The lunch menu is one of the most enjoyable affordable dining experiences in Oliver — the dinner menu is more ambitious and commands accordingly higher prices.
Reservations: Strongly recommended for dinner; lunch easier
Terrafina — Hester Creek Estate Winery
Italian-inspired restaurant at Hester Creek with a wood-fired oven and housemade pasta. Pizza, antipasto, and the unexpected pleasure of excellent Trebbiano wine alongside Italian food in Canada’s wine capital. Relaxed atmosphere, great patio.
The Rustic Reel
A casual downtown Oliver spot with good burgers, craft beer, and a patio. Solid choice for lunch after a morning on the Golden Mile, when you want something filling and unpretentious before the afternoon tasting rooms.
Penticton Restaurants
The Hooded Merganser — Penticton Lakeside Resort
Waterfront restaurant at the Penticton Lakeside Resort. Views directly onto Okanagan Lake, solid menu, and a good local wine list. The best setting for a dinner in Penticton proper — the view at sunset over the lake earns its place on the list even if the food is more consistent than extraordinary.
Brodo Kitchen
A favourite among Penticton locals — small, unpretentious, and genuinely good food. The broth-based dishes, fresh pasta, and rotating seasonal menu reflect what’s available from local farms. No reservations taken; arrive early or expect a wait in peak season.
Raudz Regional Table
One of the Okanagan’s pioneer farm-to-table restaurants, in Kelowna — but the owners also run Micro Bar & Bites in Penticton, which brings the same ethos to a smaller format. If you’re in Penticton, Micro Bar is worth the stop for carefully sourced small plates and an excellent local wine list.
Cannery Brewing
Penticton’s best craft brewery with a solid food menu. Brews made on site, great patio on the channel between Okanagan and Skaha lakes. One of the best casual dining experiences in the city — go for a flight and a burger and stay for the view.
Kelowna Restaurants
RauDZ Regional Table
The flagship of chef Rod Butters, who has been cooking locally sourced food in the Okanagan longer than almost anyone. The menu changes constantly based on what’s available; the wine list is exhaustive and heavily Okanagan-weighted. Consistent, creative, and never overreaching. One of the best restaurants in the Interior.
Reservations: Essential
Home Block — CedarCreek Estate Winery
Farm-to-table restaurant at CedarCreek on the Kelowna lakeshore. The menu reflects what’s growing on the estate and nearby farms. Chardonnay with the fish; Pinot Noir with the duck. One of the most cohesive wine-and-food experiences in the valley. Lunch and dinner.
Reservations: Required for dinner
Old Vines Restaurant — Quails’ Gate
Consistently excellent winery restaurant on the West Kelowna shoreline. The patio views over Okanagan Lake are spectacular; the food is genuinely ambitious. The house-smoked salmon and the duck breast are perennial menu anchors. Book weeks ahead in summer.
Reservations: Essential in summer
Waterfront Wines Restaurant
Downtown Kelowna institution. Serious wine list, accomplished kitchen, and a relaxed room that doesn’t take itself too seriously. One of the most consistent dining experiences in the city — the kind of restaurant you return to every trip.
The Bouchons Bistro
Classic French bistro in downtown Kelowna that has been drawing loyal regulars for years. Steak frites, duck confit, excellent cheese plate, and one of the better wine-by-the-glass programs in the city. Quieter than the trendier spots but more reliably good.
BNA Brewing
Kelowna’s best brewery pub, in a converted bowling alley downtown. Great beer, good pizza, loud and fun. Excellent for a casual night out; the patio gets lively on summer evenings.
Vernon Restaurants
Intermezzo Restaurant
The most established fine dining restaurant in Vernon. Classic continental menu executed with care. Good local wine list. The kind of restaurant the city has needed — serious cooking in a relaxed, grown-up room.
The Shore Steak & Grille — Sparkling Hill Resort
The restaurant at Sparkling Hill Resort above Okanagan Lake. The views from the floor-to-ceiling windows are extraordinary and the cooking is ambitious enough to justify the drive up the hill. Best at dinner when the sunset lights up the lake below.
Ratio Coffee & Pastry
The best coffee shop in Vernon — and genuinely one of the best in the valley. Single-origin coffee, excellent pastries, and a space that’s worth lingering in. A good starting point for any Vernon morning before heading to Kalamalka Lake.
Okanagan Spirits Craft Distillery
Not a restaurant but one of the more interesting tasting experiences in the North Okanagan — BC’s first craft distillery produces grappa, absinthe, fruit brandies, and whisky from local ingredients. The tasting room in Vernon is worth stopping into.
Restaurant Tips
- Book winery restaurants 2–4 weeks ahead for summer weekends. Sonora Room, Miradoro, Old Vines, and Home Block regularly sell out.
- Lunch at winery restaurants is often better value than dinner with similar food and views at lower price points.
- Downtown Kelowna has the best casual dining density — a walkable evening through the cultural district will turn up excellent food at every price point.
- Many Okanagan restaurants close in winter or reduce to limited hours. Call ahead if visiting October through April.
